Join us sometime, to ride and chat

We enjoyed a good attendance at today's bonus Christmas Eve ride: so many riders that I could not capture them all in one shot. A small fraction of the group appears below - note how the pairs in front are riding side by side, chatting as they go.

The photo also includes two newcomers (welcome aboard!) who prompted our new Queenscliff meeting point.

New meeting point in Queenscliff

We've added a new location for joining our regular rides. It's aimed at people who first ride from Queenscliff to Point Lonsdale, then join Pedal Pushers for the ride back to Queenscliff.

The new meeting spot is outside the Queencliff Inn at 59 Hesse St, thirty minutes before the ride leaves Point Lonsdale IGA.

Note that most of our riders live in Point Lonsdale, so it's likely that this meeting point will not have many riders - but by having it advertised, at least there's a chance you'll have some company for your outward journey.

Please follow the usual rule: depart at the scheduled time, or shortly after - but don't leave early. This prevents frustration for those who arrive precisely on time.

The new meeting arrangement is now shown in the list of Regular Rides on the main page of our website, below.

Thursday 24 December: bonus morning ride

Since next Friday is Christmas Day, it's likely that many of us will be busy. To compensate, there's an extra ride on the Thursday morning: same time, same place, just a day early.

See details in the ticket below - click to enlarge.
Admit one. Or two or three. Or more.

Note the Friday ride is scheduled as usual - but there may be very few riders.

Coastal Forum coming to Queenscliff

As evidenced by our weekly photos, this local environment is a pretty special place. And by cycling instead of driving, we're doing a little to help conserve it. But maybe you'd like to do a bit more.. read on!

This week I learned of an upcoming Coastal Forum which aims to raise awareness of some important aspects of our local environment. The forum is happening at Camp Wyuna in Queenscliff next week, Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December 2009.

The Coastal Forum is run by the Bellarine Catchment Network, and it's free. However there are limited places, and you must book in advance by completing a registration form and emailing or posting it.

Click for the Coastal Forum Program in .PDF format (size 502 kb).

Click for the Registration Form in .DOC format (size 988 kb). Note the registration date has been extended - but you must contact the organiser to confirm that space is still available, before lodging your registration.

Imagine our surprise..

..imagine our surprise, when we arrived at the fence around the Music Festival and found it carefully propped open to allow our access along the shared pathway.

..imagine our surprise at the Ferry Terminal, when we saw the sand-pumping pipe being dismantled then reassembled for future use.

..imagine our surprise during the return journey, when we saw one of our regular riders headed out to join us. And she almost caught up, despite the extra hour of sleep-in.

Alternate café for Friday?

This coming Friday marks the start of the Queenscliff Music Festival, which means we may find it awkward to follow our usual route along the pathway to the Ferry Terminal.

Soo... maybe we could take the opportunity to visit an alternate destination instead, such as the Ocean View Kiosk or a café in Hobson Street. This would only work for somewhere that's open by 8:30am, of course.

Please click to add a comment:
* do you know a venue that's open by 8:30am?
* or have an idea for somewhere we might try?
